How to iron on an embroidered patch
Prepare the iron: Preheat your iron to the highest setting for cotton or the fabric you're using, usually around 350°F. Make sure the iron is dry and the steam is off.
-
Position the patch: Place the patch where you want it on the fabric.
-
Protect the fabric: Put a thin cloth or parchment square over the patch. For delicate fabrics like wool, use a damp cloth.
-
Iron the patch: Apply firm pressure with the iron for about 30 seconds. Move the iron around to avoid burning the fabric.
-
Cool: Let the patch and fabric cool for about five minutes.
-
Iron the back: Turn the fabric inside out and iron the area behind the patch for about 30 seconds.
-
Cool again: Let the area cool for another five minutes.
The right fabric is important for the patch to adhere well and the fabric to stay undamaged. You should avoid applying iron-on patches to rainwear, rayon, nylon, tri-acetate, or highly elastic fabrics.
